CXIV. Thursday: The Last Supper (Mt 26:17-30; Mk 14:12-26; Lk 22:7-30; Jn 13:1-30; I Cor. 11:24-25)

CXV. The Farewell Discourse of Jesus (Mt 26:30-35; Mk 14:26-31; Lk 22:31-39; Jn 13:31-14:14; 15:1-17; 14:15-24; 15:18-25; 16:1-11; 15:26-27; 16:12-33; 14:25-31; 17:1-18:1)

CXIII. Wednesday: The Conspiracy Against Jesus (Mt 26:3-5; 14-16; Mk 14:1-2; 10-11; Lk 21:37- 22:6)

And in the days he was teaching in the temple; and in the nights, going out, he lodged in the mount, that being called Olivet. And all the people came early unto him in the temple for to hear him.

Now after two days was to be the feast of unleavened bread which is called the Passover; and it was drawing nigh. Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas. And the chief priests and the scribes took counsel together seeking how they might subtly seize him and put him to death or kill or destroy him: and they said, “Not during the feast, lest perchance there should be a tumultuous uprising among the people;” for they feared the people.

And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, who was then numbered as one of the twelve, and he went away unto the chief priests and communed with them and the captains in order that he might deliver him unto them, saying, “What are you willing to give me? I will deliver him unto you.” And when they heard it they were exuberant, and they covenanted to give him money, and he consented. They weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver, and from that time he sought opportunity in order that he might conveniently deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

CXIV. Thursday: The Last Supper (Mt 26:17-30; Mk 14:12-26; Lk 22:7-30; Jn 13:1-30; I Cor. 11:24-25)

Now on the first day of unleavened bread which had come, the one on which the Paschal lambs must be sacrificed and were being killed, the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, “Where are you willing that we should be going for you and should be making ready so that you can eat the Passover?” And he sent two of his disciples, Peter and John, saying unto them, “Going into the city, make ready for us the Passover, so that we may eat.” And they said unto him, “Where are you desiring that we make ready?” And he said unto them, “Behold, when you are entering into the city, there you will meet a man bearing aloft a pitcher of water; follow him into the house wheresoever he should enter or go in, and you shall say unto the master of the house, “The Teacher says to you, “My time is near at hand. I must observe the Passover at your house. Where is the guest-room where I shall prepare to eat the Passover with my disciples?”” And he will show you a large, furnished upper room that has been prepared: go and make ready for us there.” And the disciples went forth and did as Jesus directed them, and they came into the city, and they found even as he had told them: and they made ready the Passover.

Now when the evening hour had come, he came and reclined to eat with the twelve disciples who were also designated apostles. And there arose a contention among his disciples, about which of them is supposed to be the greater. And he said unto them, “The kings of the nations are exercising sway over them; and those exercising power or authority over them are called “Benefactors.” But it is not to be so with all of you: but he that is the greater among you, let him become like as the initiate; and he that is chief officer, like as he that is serving. For which is typically greater, he that is reclining to eat, or he that is serving? Is it not he that is reclining to eat? But I am in the midst of you all as he that is serving. And you are they that have continued with me through my trial; and I am assigning unto you my kingdom, even as my Father assigned unto me his kingdom, in order that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and you can yourselves sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

Now Jesus knowing before the feast of the Passover that his hour had come in order that he should depart out of this world unto the Father: having loved, cared for, valued and esteemed his own that were in the world, he loved, cared for, valued and esteemed them by meeting their needs utterly unto the end. And supper occurring, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas of Simon Iscariot that he should hand him over, and Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands with the present result that he (Jesus) was in total control, and knowing that he came forth from God as the source, and that he was departing unto the same God, he arose from the supper and laid aside his garments; and taking a towel he girded himself. Then pouring water into the basin he began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them off with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then he came to Simon Peter: and that one said unto him, “Lord, are you washing my feet?” Jesus answered and said unto him, “You know not for sure at this moment what I am doing; but you will know after these things are done.” Peter said unto him, “You cannot ever wash my feet - even unto eternity!” Jesus answered him, “Unless I can wash you, you are possessing no partnership or fellowship with me.” Simon Peter said unto him, “Lord, wash not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.” Jesus said to him, “He having been bathed is possessing no need to wash himself again save for his feet, but is entirely clean: and you all are clean, but not every one of you.” For he knew the one handing him over; therefore he said, “Not all of you are clean.”

So when he had washed their feet, and had taken on his garments, reclining again he said unto them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me “The Teacher,” and “The Lord:” and you speak rightly, for so I am. If then, I, “The Lord,” and “The Teacher,” have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another. For I have given you all an example, so that you also should do as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say unto you, a slave is not greater than his lord; neither an apostle greater than the one sending him. If you know these things as absolute, fortunate are you if you can do them. I cannot speak this way about all of you: I surely know whom I have chosen for myself: in order that the scripture may be fulfilled, “The one eating bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.” From now on I shall tell you before it comes to pass, so that when it comes to pass, you may believe that I AM. Truly, truly I say unto you all, the one receiving whomsoever I will send, receives me; and the one receiving me, receives the One sending me.”

And as they reclined, and were eating, and Jesus had finished speaking, he became disquieted and affected with anxiety in spirit. And he testified, saying, “Truly, truly I say unto you all, that one out of you will betray me - he that eats with me - behold, the hand of my betrayer is with mine on the table.” Then the disciples looked at one another, doubting themselves in perplexity over whom he spoke; and they began to scrutinize among themselves which of them it may then be that could be the one about to commit this thing. And they began to be grieved - grieving exceedingly - and each one of them began to say unto him one by one, “I am not at all, Lord.” And another, “I not at all!“ And he answered and said unto them, “It is one of the twelve - one that has dipped his hand with mine in the dish - the same shall betray me. Indeed the Son of Man is departing from life according to that having been decreed and predestined- to die even as it has been written of him - but woe unto that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would have been best for him if that man was not born.” And there was at the table reclining over by the bosom of Jesus one of his disciples whom Jesus was esteeming, valuing and delighting in. Simon Peter therefore nodded to him to ask who it might be concerning whom he speaks. Leaning back, as he was, against Jesus’ breast, he said unto him, “Lord, who is it?” Jesus then answers, “It is the one for whom I, dipping the sop, shall give it.” [The sharing of the sop in the middle east is an act of intimacy.] And dipping in the sop, he took and gave it to Judas of Simon Iscariot. And after the sop, then Satan entered again into him, and Judas who was betraying him answered and said, “I am not, Rabbi.” Jesus therefore said unto him, “You have so said. What you are doing, do it quickly.” Now not one of those reclining at the table knew for what intent he said this to him. For some thought, since Judas held the money bag, that Jesus told him, “Buy what things we have need of for the feast;” or, that he should give something to the poor. That one then having received the sop, went out immediately: and it was night.

And as they were eating, he said unto them, “With anticipation I have desired to eat this Passover with you all before I am to suffer: for I say unto you all, I shall never, not ever, eat of it again until its significance is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And Jesus, taking a loaf of bread, when he had blessed it and given thanks, he broke it, and he gave pieces to the disciples, saying, “Take ye and eat: this is my body broken on your behalf which is being given for you: this do in remembrance as a memorial or commemoration of me.” And taking the cup he received, in like manner, after supper, when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said unto them, “Take this and divide it among yourselves: drink ye all of it; for in this cup is my blood - that of the New Testament Covenant in my blood - which is being shed and poured out for many unto remission or forgiveness of sins, even that which is being poured out for you: this do ye, as often as ye may drink it, in remembrance as a memorial or commemoration of me. Now truly I say unto you, from now on I shall not drink any more of this fruit or produce of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom - when the kingdom of God can come.” And all drank from it.

CXV. The Farewell Discourse of Jesus (Mt 26:30-35; Mk 14:26-31; Lk 22:31-39; Jn 13:31-14:14; 15:1-17; 14:15-24; 15:18-25; 16:1-11; 15:26-27; 16:12-33; 14:25-31; 17:1-18:1)

[For treatment of this portion of John, see: "The Shuffled Manuscript Theory"] Then Jesus said, “Now has the Son of Man been signalized with a manifestation of recognizable identification, and God has been signalized with a manifestation of recognizable identification in or through him. Since God has been signalized with a manifestation of recognizable identification in or through him, God will both recognizably identify him with himself, and he will recognizably identify him directly. Children, I am with you yet but a little while longer. You will all seek me: and as I said to the Jews, that where I go you are not all able to come, so now, I also say it unto you. I give unto you a new type of commandment, that you faithfully and lovingly care for one another. I have faithfully and lovingly cared for all of you in this manner, so that you also can faithfully and lovingly care for one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have generous, loving, kindly concern and devotion among one another.”

Simon Peter said unto him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “You are not able to follow me where I go now, but you will follow me afterwards.” And Peter said unto him, “Lord, why am I not able to follow you now? I will lay down my life on your behalf. I am prepared and ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” And Jesus answered and said unto him, “Will you lay down your life on my behalf? Truly, truly, I say unto you, Peter, that today - even during this night - before the cock crows twice - he will definitely not sound until you will have renounced me, or will have denied knowing me, or for self interest you shall deny that you know me, three times.” But Peter, cried out more exceedingly, and said unto him, “Even if I necessarily need to die with you, yet I will never deny you!” And likewise, in like manner, all the disciples also said this. And then Jesus said unto them, “All of you will falter and fall away, and be offended with me, and be caused to stumble during this night: for it has been written, “I will smite and kill the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered abroad.” But, after my being raised from the dead, I will go before you into Galilee.” But Peter answered and said unto him, “Although all shall be offended with you and caused to stumble and fall away, yet not I. I will never be offended in you, or caused to stumble, nor fall away.” And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to obtain you for himself to sift you as wheat [by means of trials and temptations in order to get him to fall away in faithless unbelief]: but I have made supplication for you, so that your faith would not fail: and once having returned back again, you confirm, establish, or render mentally steadfast your brethren.”

And he said unto them, “When I sent you all forth without bag and wallet and shoes, did you lack or were you in want of anything?” And they said, “Nothing.” Then he said unto them, “But now, he that has a bag, let him take it, and likewise a wallet: and the one having no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. For I say unto you, that this which is written is of necessity yet to be fulfilled in me, “And he has been enumerated, reckoned or counted with the transgressors:” for that also which concerns me has a fulfillment or realization.” And they said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And he said unto them, “It is enough.”

And Jesus said, “Let not your heart be agitated and troubled. You are all faithing or trusting into God: faith or trust also into me. In the house of my Father are many abodes or dwelling-places: yea, if not, I would have told all of you. I go away to prepare or make ready an abode or dwelling-place for all of you. And if I go and prepare an abode or dwelling-place for you all, I will come again and will take you all to my side and receive you all to myself, so that where I am, all of you shall be also. And you all know for sure to what place I go away or whither I depart, and you all surely know the Means of access, approach or entrance.”

Thomas said unto him, “Lord, we know not for sure where you are going; how are we even able to have known for sure the means of access, approach or entrance?” Jesus said unto him, “I am the Means of access, approach or entrance; and I am the Practice in accordance with truth; and I am the Source of spiritual life: not (even) one is coming, going or passing to the Father except or unless they go, pass or come by means of, or through, me. If you had known me in the past, you would have known my Father in the past also: from this present moment you all are inceptively knowing, discerning, perceiving and ascertaining him by examination, and you all have seen him.”

Philip said unto him, “Lord, allow us to see the Father, and it is satisfying for us (e.g. it will suffice).” Jesus said unto him, “I have been with you all so long a time, and you still do not know me, Philip? The one having observed me has observed the Father; how is it that you are saying, “Allow us to see the Father?” Are you not believing that I (am) in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words which I am speaking unto you, I am not speaking from myself as a derivative source: but the Father abiding in me, he is doing these deeds, works or actions. You all believe me (when I say) that I (am) in the Father, and the Father (is) in me; but if not, believe me because of the deeds, works or actions themselves. Truly, truly, I say unto you, the one believing or faithing into me, the deeds, works or actions which I am doing, he or she will do also; and greater deeds, works or actions than these he or she will do, because I go unto my Father. And anything at all [* “Anything at all” is an indefinite pronoun used together with an untranslatable particle implying vagueness and uncertainty, fittingly used with the subjunctive mood “may ask or desire,” and thus affirming the practice with varying degrees of uncertainty.] that you all may ask or desire in my Name, this I may or will do [This “do” can be legitimately translated both ways as either future or subjunctive.], so that the Father may be recognized in the Son. If you should ask me anything in my Name, I may or will do (it).

“I am the real, true Grape-vine, genuine as opposed to all others, and my Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in me not bringing forth or producing fruit, he is removing it: and every (branch) bringing forth or producing fruit, he is pruning it, so that it can bring forth or produce more fruit. You all are already sincere, upright, virtuous and void of evil at this time because of the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide, stay, be in close and settled union, remain and continue in me, and I (will be) so in you. As the branch is not able to bring forth or produce fruit of itself as a source, except or unless it can remain, abide, stay in union with, or continue in the vine; so in such a condition not even you can do so, except or unless you can abide, stay, be in close and settled union, remain and continue in me. I am the Grape-vine; you are the branches: the one abiding, staying, being in close and settled union and remaining in me, and I so in him, this one is bringing forth or producing much fruit: for parted apart from me you all are not able to accomplish not one thing. Unless anyone can abide, remain, stay, be in close and settled union in, and continue in me, he (will) be purged like as the foreign branch not belonging to one‘s community to pine and be withered; and they (men) are gathering them together, and they (the men) are casting them into a fire, and they (the separated branches) are being consumed with fire [The penalty for falling away from The Faith.]. If you all can abide, remain, stay, be in close and settled union in and continue in me, and my words can dwell, endure, remain, stay, abide, and settle in you, you all will ask for yourselves whatsoever you may desire, and it will come to pass for you. In this my Father is recognized and identified: that you all can bring forth or produce much fruit, and that you will all assume the character and appearance of disciples for me. As the Father loved, valued, esteemed, was faithful towards, delighted in, and cared for me, I also loved, valued, esteemed, was faithful towards, delighted in, and cared for you: abide in this kind of love for me. If you all can keep my commandments, you will abide in my loving care; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments with the present result that I abide in his loving care. These things I have spoken unto you so that my joy may abide in all of you, and that your joy may be made complete. This is my commandment: that you love, value, esteem, be faithful towards, delight in, set store upon and lovingly care for one another, even as I have loved, valued, esteemed, been faithful towards, delighted in, set store upon and lovingly cared for all of you. No one has greater love and care than this: that one would lay down his life in the place of his friends. You are my friends if you all can do as much as I command you. No more can I call you all slaves; for the slave absolutely knows not what his lord is doing: but I have addressed you all as friends; because all things which I heard from my Father I have declared, revealed and made known to you. You have not chosen me for yourselves, but I have chosen all of you for myself, and assigned you a commission, that you should depart and should produce fruit, and that your fruit should remain permanent: so that anything at all [* as above] you all may ask or desire of the Father in my Name, he may give (it) to you. Thus I command you that you love, value, esteem, be faithful towards, delight in, set store upon and lovingly care for one another.

“If all of you are loving me, valuing me, esteeming me, being faithful to me, manifesting concern for me and seeking my best interests, then you heed, keep or observe my commandments [Some manuscripts have the future indicative: teresete “you will heed;” some others have the aorist subjunctive: teresete “you should heed;”and still others including the received text have this aorist imperative teresate: “you heed.”], and I will ask, make request or petition the Father, and he will give you all another benefactor, assistant or advocate who will compensate for my absence, that he may stay, abide, dwell with you forever - the Spirit of Truth, whom the world is not able to receive; for it is not perceiving him, neither is it inceptively comprehending, ascertaining by examination, understanding, knowing or acknowledging him. But you all are complete and settled in knowing and acknowledging him, for he is abiding with you all, and will be in all of you. I will not abandon, leave or forsake you (as) bereaved, desolate orphans: I come unto you all (as the Holy Spirit). Yet a little while and the world is considering, contemplating, viewing or experiencing me no more: but all of you are considering, contemplating, viewing or experiencing me. Because I am living, you yourselves will live also. In that day you yourselves will know that I dwell in my Father, and you dwell in me, and I dwell in you. The one having my commandments and heeding, keeping or observing them, that one is the one loving me, valuing me, esteeming me, being faithful to me, manifesting concern for me and seeking my best interests: and the one so loving me will be so loved by my Father, and I will love, value, esteem, be faithful to, manifest concern for, seek the best interests of, and meet the needs of him, and I will manifest, reveal or make myself known unto him.”

Judas (not the Iscariot) said unto him, “Lord, what has come to pass that you are about to manifest, reveal or make yourself known unto us, but not unto the world?” Jesus answered and said unto him, “If some one is loving me, valuing me, esteeming me, being faithful to me, manifesting concern for me and seeking my best interests, they will heed, keep or observe my word: and my Father will love him, value him, esteem him, be faithful to him, manifest concern for him, seek his best interest, and meet his needs, and we will come to him, and we will make our place of stay, abode or dwelling with him. The unfaithful one not loving, valuing, esteeming, or caring for me or my interests is not heeding, keeping or observing my words: and the word which you all are hearing is not mine, but that of the Father sending me.

“Since the world is hating you all, you all know that it has detested, hated and regarded me with ill will before you, with the present result that you also are hated, detested and regarded with ill will. If you all were of the world, the world would have been manifesting kindness, regarding you all with affection, and befriending its own. And because you are not of the world, but I chose or selected you for myself out of the world as recipients of gracious favor and privilege, therefore the world is hating you. Remember the word which I spoke unto you, “A slave is not greater than his lord.” If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also; if they heeded, kept or observed my word, they will heed, keep or observe yours also. But all these things they will do unto you all because of my Name, for they absolutely know not the One sending me forth. If I had not come and had not spoken unto them, they would not be incurring sin: but now they are without excuse concerning their sin. The one hating me is also hating my Father. If I had not done the works among them which no other individual has done to this day, they would be having no sin: but now they have both seen and hated unto this time both me and my Father. But (this occurred) so that the saying may be fulfilled that has been written in their Law, “They freely hated my Gift.”

“These things I have spoken unto you with the present result that you might not be offended, caused to stumble, or fall away (from The Faith). They will cause you all to be excommunicated and expelled or excluded from the synagogue and society, revoking Jewish rights and privileges: yea, an hour is coming that all will think, imagine, presume that killing you is a religious service to offer God. And they will do these things unto you because they know not the Father nor me. But I have spoken all these things to you, so that when the hour does come, you all may recall to mind, that I told them to you. And I did not tell these things to you from the beginning because I was with all of you. But now I go or depart unto the One sending me [to present the covering for the heavenly holy of holies]; and not one of you is (now) asking me, “Where are you going?” But because I have spoken these things to all of you, sorrow and grief has filled your hearts and you are all now sad. Nevertheless, I can tell you the truth: it is advantageous, expedient, conducive to profit and for your benefit that I should go away: for if I should go not away, the Benefactor, Advocate or Assistant [The Holy Spirit] will not come unto you; but if I can go, I will send him unto you. And (when) that One can come, (he) will expose and convict the world concerning sin, and concerning justification, and concerning judgment: concerning sin because they are not believing into me; and concerning justification because I go away unto my Father and you are experiencing me no more; and concerning judgment because the ruler of this world (Satan) has been and now stands judged. But when the Benefactor, Assistant or Advocate can come, whom I will send to you from the Father - the Spirit of Truth who is proceeding from the Father, that One shall witness or testify concerning me: and you also are (to be) witnessing or testifying because you have stood with me from the start. I yet have many things to tell you, but you are not able to bear (them) now. Howbeit, when that One can come - the Spirit of Truth - he will instruct or teach you all in all the truth: for he will not speak out of himself as a source; but whatsoever things, as much as he may hear, will he speak: and he will declare unto you things that are coming. That One shall magnify me: for he will take from (what is) mine, and will declare it unto you. All as much as the Father has is mine: this is why I said that he will take from (what is) mine and will declare it unto you.

“(In) a little while and you are seeing me not; and (in) a little while you shall see me again because I go to the Father.” [Here the Alexandrian Text leaves off "because I go to the Father."] Some of his disciples therefore said one to another, “What is this which he is saying to us, “(In) a little while and you are seeing me not, and (in) a little while you shall see me again:” and, “because I go to the Father?” They said, therefore, “What is this that he says, “the little while?” We know not for sure what he is saying.” Then Jesus perceived that they were wanting to ask him, and he said to them, “Are you inquiring among one another concerning this because I said, “(In) a little while, and you are not seeing me, and (in) a little while you shall see me again?” Truly, truly, I say unto you that you will all weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. And you will be grieved, pained, distressed and sorrowful, but your misery will grow into joy. When the woman does bear child, she is having grief because her time has come: but when she does deliver the child, she no longer remembers the affliction because of the joy that a person has been born into the world. And therefore you indeed are having grief now: but I will see you all again, and your heart will be full of joy, and no one is (able to be) taking your joy away from you. And in that day you all will not ask me anything. Truly, truly, I say unto you, that whatsoever you may ask the Father, in my Name, he will give (it) you. Up until now you all have not asked anything in my Name: ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be fulfilling.

“These things I have spoken unto you in obscure enigmatic sayings until this very hour: an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in obscure enigmatic sayings, but I will set forth to you all freely and boldly concerning the Father. In that day you will ask in my Name: and I tell you not that I will make request of the Father concerning you; for the Father himself cherishes you all excessively because you all have loved me even up until this moment, and have believed that I came forth from God even up until this moment. I came forth from the Father, and came into the world: likewise, I leave the world and go unto the Father.” His disciples said unto him, “Lo, now you are speaking freely and boldly, and you are speaking not even one obscure enigmatic saying. Now we know for sure that you surely know all things, and are having no necessity or requirement that anyone should question you. By this we are believing that you came from God.” Jesus answered them, “Are you all now believing?” Behold, an hour is coming, yea, has already come, that you all shall be scattered, every one separately to his own household, and you all shall forsake and desert me: yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. These things have I spoken unto you up to this time so that in me you all may have peace. In the world you will all have distressing circumstances: but be of good courage and be of good cheer; I have overcome the world with the present result that I am an over-comer [Jesus is the second Adam. See Appendix "G"].

“These things I have spoken unto you all while abiding with you. But the Benefactor, Assistant, or Advocate - the Holy Spirit which the Father will send in my Name - that One shall teach all of you all things, and will put in your mind and bring to your remembrance all which I said unto you. I leave to you all peace; my peace I give to you: I give to you all not as the world is giving. Let not your heart be troubled, agitated, disquieted or affected with anxiety and grief: neither let it be fearful or intimidated. You have heard how that I said to you, “I go away, and I come to you.” If you had been seeking my highest good, you would have rejoiced that I said, “I go to the Father (rather than keeping me for yourselves),” for my Father is greater than me. And now I have told you before it is to take place, so that, when it does take place, you all may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming (Satan): and he is not holding anything in me; but so that the world can know that I am loving, valuing, esteeming and delighting in the Father, faithfully seeking his good interests, and as the Father commanded me, even so I am doing. Rouse yourselves, we should go away from this place.”

These things Jesus spoke; and he lifted up his eyes toward heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Magnify your Son, in order that your Son may also magnify you. Inasmuch as you gave him power and authority (over) all humanity, so to all you have given him with the present result that they are his alone, to them may he give life eternal. And this is eternal life: that they may know, you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the Messiah whom you sent. I signalized you upon the earth with manifestations of excellence. I did fully execute the work that I should do which you have given me with the present result that it is done. And now, Father, you glorify me thyself with the glory which I was possessing with you before the existence of the world. I declared and made known your Name to the persons whom you have given to me out of the world with the present result that they now know your Name: they were your property; and you have given them to me with the present result that they are now mine; and they have kept your word even to this present time. Now they have known with the present result that they are aware that all, whatsoever you have given to me to this moment, is from you: for the sayings which you have given to me that I presently possess, I have given unto them so that they are now inculcated; and they received me, and they concluded that I truly came forth from you, and they believed that you sent me. I am asking about them: I am not asking about the world, but about those whom you have given to me that I now have: for they are your property, and all of mine are yours, and what is yours mine; and I have been identified with them with the present result that they are known as my associates. Also I am no longer (to be) in the world, but these are (remaining) in the world, for I come unto you. Holy Father, keep those whom you have given to me, that I now have, in your Name, so that they may be one, even as (are) we. While I was in the world with them, I was keeping them in your Name: I preserved whom you have given to me with the present result that they are now safe, and not one of them voided himself, except the son of perdition, so that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now I come to you; and I am speaking these things (while) in the world, so that they may have my joy being fulfilled in themselves. I have given them your word so that they are presently indoctrinated; and the world hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I ask not that you might take them out of the world, but that you would preserve or shield them from the evil one - the Devil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Consecrate or sanctify them in your truth: your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I also sent them into the world. And for them I consecrate or sanctify myself, so that they also may be receiving consecration or sanctification in truth. And I not only ask about these, but also about those believing into me in the future through their word: that all may be one, as you, Father, (are) in me, and I (am) in you, so that they may also be one in us: so that the world may believe that you sent me. And the identity which you have given me which I now have, I have given to them with the result that they are now identified with us, so that they may be one, (even) as we are one: I in them, and you in me, so that they may be receiving complete organization into a unit or whole; and so that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me. Father, I desire that those whom you have given to me up to this point may also be with me where I am, so that they may behold my glory which you gave me because you loved me before (the) foundation (of the) world. O righteous Father, indeed the world knew you not, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me; and I made your Name known to them, and will make it known so that the love wherewith you loved me, may be in them, and I (also may be) in them.” When Jesus had spoken these words they sung a hymn and then he came out and went forth with his disciples over the ravine of the Cedars, and they went out unto the mount of Olives, as he was accustomed, where there was a garden named Gethsemane, into which he entered, himself and his disciples who also followed him.
